KINESIOTAPING

See full size image

Recognize any of these athletes ? Are you wondering why they have tape on them and how it works ? This is Kinesiotaping and it is a special type of tape made to be flexible like skin. I am a Licensed Massage Therapist currently taking classes in Kinesiotaping. I have one class left , which I will taking this Saturday,KTA Level Three. I'll then take the KT exam, hopefully pass and become certified in this . Currently, I have completed KTA Level One and Two. I have been taping for my Achilles tendinitis and plantar fascitis, and I can tell you the tape really works in relieving inflammation and suporrting the muscles and tendons. When KT is used in conjunction with massage, stretching and RICE, athletes can see great improvement in injuries.
KT works to lift the layer of fascia and promote circulation and therefore decrease inflammation. If you don't know what fascia is, think of your body as being many layers like and onion. When these layer get "stuck" and are inflamed it is difficult for the tissue to move and for good circualtion to occur to decrease inflammation. The people that are certified in Kinesiotaping must understand the muscle, tendon and how the body works. Only certain professions are eligible to take the courses and the exam to be certified in KT. For example : LMT, PT , Dr., DC , and AT's.
Remember the last Olympics and all that pink and blue tape?? That was kinesiotape.
